Hurricane Paloma

Well, this is the reason our dive trip was cut short by one day. Hurricane Paloma was bearing down on the island. This is some video from the Associated Press. We got out on the last plane before they shut down the only airport on Grand Cayman. It's about as close as I ever want to get to a storm that big. I'm concerned for the crew who had to stay on the boat. We left the boat at 6am on Friday and were in the air by 10am. They, however, had to race half way around the island to a shallow cove and batten down every hatch, remove everything from the decks, and cover every window with heavy metal plates. They then stayed in the boat to ride out the storm. I'll be calling the Aggressor Fleet on Monday to see how they made out.

Despite the hurricane, it was still a good week of diving in the Caymans. As the storm was approaching, we had some wind and rain most of the week. I think that Sunday was the only day that I would call sunny. We could not travel to Little Cayman or Cayman Brac, but we had plenty of good sites, while avoiding the worst of the weather, on Grand Cayman. I'll have pictures and videos up soon.
